Program Description

Appropriate for Brand New Golfers.  No experience necessary.   Early Bird Special of $195 + tax if registerested before Friday March 27th.
The First Step Co-Ed Golf Clinic 101 is designed for adults that are brand new to golf.  This clinic is appropriate for someone who has either no experience or very limited experience in golf.  This program is a great way for students to learn and try golf in a fun and friendly atmosphere.

Students will be introduced to four areas of golf:

    1. Putting - basic mechanics (short and medium length putts)

    2. Chipping - basic mechanics (when close to the green - getting the ball up onto the green)

    3. Full Swing - basic mechanics and movements in the swing (on the range)

    4. Pitching - basic mechanics (slightly further from the pin/flag - getting the ball up in the air)

In these four areas, students will learn how to: hold the club; set-up properly; and how to make a swing/stroke with the appropriate club.  Other topics to be introduced are: useful golf term, etiquette, basic club selection (what and when to use different clubs) and basic rules.

NOTE: The clinic is on Saturday mornings.

THERESA MCDERMOTT

Theresa McDermott is the Director of Instruction at Grey Silo Golf Course.  She is a former Touring Professional and she played on the Futures Tour (Epson), the Canadian Tour and the West Coast Ladies' Golf Tour.  Theresa is a LPGA Class A Teaching Professional.

Theresa has been nominated for the LPGA Mid-West Teacher of the Year and has been recognized as a US Kids Top 50 Instructor (HM).  Both Golf Ontario and British Columbia Golf have selected her to teach special provincial programs.  She has served 3 years on the LPGA Canadian Committee.  Each year, she attends various global PGA seminars, teaching and coaching summits and she has taken other courses including: TPI (Titleist Performance Institute), AimPoint and Charlie King’s New Rules Golf Coach.

Prior to turning professional, Theresa earned a full scholarship to a NCAA Division I Big Ten School, Indiana University.  She was coached by Hall of Fame Coach and former PGA Tour Player, Sam CarmichaelThe Hoosiers were ranked as low as 8th in the country and won 14 tournaments and won a Big Ten Conference Championship.  Theresa won an individual event, had countless top 5 and top 10 finishes and she was selected to the All Big Ten Conference Team.

As an elite amateur, Theresa was invited to pretigious events like the North South Amateur at Pinehurst GC and the Women's Western Amateur.  She competed in the US Amateur, Canadian, Ontario and Indiana Championships.  As a junior, she finished in the Top-4 in 3 consecutive Provincial Championships.  She was a member of the Ontario Junior Girls Team.  She won the Ontario Junior Girls Match Play Championship and won Low 17-year old at the Canadian Championships.  She was invited to the prestigious Hudson Junior Invitational in Ohio and qualified for the Optimist World Junior Championship at Torrey Pines GC in San Diego.
